Who is this man?
A leader in civil disobedience in both South Africa (for Indian immigrants) and British-governed India at the beginning of the 20th century.
What law did he break?
Passive disobedience through hunger strikes, mass demonstrations, and marches including the Salt March & the Quit India campaign.
What were his reasons?
Rights of Indians were being restricted and Britain was oppressing India.
What were the results?
Gandhi called off many campaigns when the Indians turned violent. He was arrested and jailed. In 1948 Gandhi was killed by a Hindu fanatic. One year earlier, India became an independent country.
